I think of the pages on this site as so many whiteboards. I’ll change them sometimes, erase them, and reorganize them. Overall, The site serves two purposes: 1.) To document my own struggles to understand and make a body of work and 2.) to share that path with others who might be interested in similar things.
I keep a detailed studio notebook (wiring diagrams, parts list, shows to see, notes on performances, etc.), so #1 above is really an effort to document the top-line integrated ideas I’m struggling with at any given time. #2, about sharing, is an effort to be as social and collaborative as circumstances allow. People can see my work and enjoy my work but, as an artist, the juice comes first, from the act of creation itself; and second, when someone “gets” the work. Many times, they don’t have to “get” what I’m giving — their act of interpretation is often more perceptive than my act of creation. That’s the social element of art and I keep this site updated to advance that purpose as well.
